La presente investigación tiene como objetivo definir las cualidades y técnicas que requieren los materiales cerámicos actuales para la creación de piezas escultóricas, que hagan posible el equilibrio de las propuestas estéticas con los avances tecnológicos en la creación de cerámica artística con referentes de la cultura mexicana. El tipo de investigación es doble: básica y aplicada, iniciando con una metodología de investigación teórica que finalizará con la aplicación de las pruebas para confrontar las categorías con las hipótesis y generar las propuestas y resultados finales. El primer capítulo inicia con los antecedentes de la cerámica escultórica mexicana, que abarca desde la época prehispánica, la colonial, el arte popular, hasta los inicios de la cerámica artística mexicana en el siglo XX, destacando la importancia de la revaloración de las raíces del material madre y sus prácticas dentro de la historia e identidad de nuestro país. El segundo capítulo trata sobre los materiales cerámicos, explorando aquellos de la región y las técnicas básicas para escultura y mural cerámico, ejemplificando con obra de hechura mexicana y sus técnicas representativas. El tercer capítulo es la descripción de nuevas mezclas de materiales, sus propiedades y los respectivos resultados de pruebas de laboratorio. El análisis y generación de las propuestas se realizará con la finalidad de crear pastas mexicanas, tanto por sus elementos regionales, como por sus propiedades modificadas para incrementar las cualidades, características y requerimientos tanto técnicos como estéticos en la creación escultórica de cerámica contemporánea. Las propuestas de pastas con aditivos eficientes, servirán para incrementar la variedad de productos que se podrán elegir para la producción de escultura y cerámica actualizada, de manera más especializada y controlando hasta cierto punto los resultados deseados, tan requeridos en las prácticas artísticas de nuestro tiempo, ya que la variedad de temas de las manifestaciones artísticas cerámicas se ha ampliado con los avances tecnológicos, observándose un incremento en las necesidades de nuevas técnicas, materiales y procesos. La investigación invita al lector a darse cuenta de que en la cerámica, el material, al igual que la pieza a realizar, debe ser repensado y rediseñado por igual. Description An account of the resource This research aims to define the qualities and techniques required by current ceramic materials for the creation of sculptural pieces, offering a balance between aesthetic proposals and technological advances in artistic ceramics with references to the Mexican culture. This study is both basic and applied, starting with a theoretical research methodology and ending with hypotheses testing, leading to a proposal and results. The first chapter begins with the antecedents of Mexican sculptural ceramics, starting from the pre-hispanic era, to colonial times, to folk art, through to the beginnings of Mexican artist ceramics in the 20th century, highlighting the importance of revaluing the roots of raw material and its use within the history and identity of our country. The second chapter covers ceramic materials, exploring regional materials and the basic techniques for ceramic sculptures and murals, exemplified by Mexican workmanship and representative techniques. The third chapter contains a description of novel raw material combinations, their properties and the corresponding results following laboratory tests. The analysis and generation of proposals is carried out with the purpose of creating Mexican modelling materials, both for regional elements and for enhancing technical and aesthetic qualities, characteristics and requirements in the sculptural creation of contemporary ceramics, by means of modified material properties. The proposal of modelling materials with efficient additives will increase the variety of product choices for producing state-of-the-art sculpting and ceramics, in a more specialized manner and to a certain extent to allow controlling the desired results. The latter is a much-needed requirement; the variety of current artistic ceramic themes has widened alongside technological advances, and there is a growing demand for new techniques, materials and processes. This study invites readers to realize that in ceramics, the material, just like the piece to be made, must be rethought and redesigned as well.
