El presente trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar la obra del artista mexicano Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, bajo el enfoque del efecto que tiene el uso de los desarrollos tecnológicos sobre el arte. Los trabajos de este artista se caracterizan por el empleo de los más recientes desarrollos técnicos disponibles en el campo de la electrónica, la informática, los dispositivos mecánicos y lumínicos controlados por computación, incluyendo su desarrollo mediante su equipo de trabajo multidisciplinario. La tesis del presente trabajo consiste en la comprobación, a partir de la obra de Lozano-Hemmer, de que los desarrollos tecnológicos que producen un cambio social profundo, modificando los modos de percepción y de identidad de una sociedad, contribuyen a dar origen al desarrollo de nuevas formas artísticas. A su vez, son éstas nuevas formas las que mejor pueden dar cuenta del impacto de los desarrollos técnicos en la sociedad, inaugurando nuevas problemáticas sociales y artísticas. Esto es debido a que una nueva forma artística establece un nuevo orden simbólico del mundo, de la nueva época que está surgiendo, revelando cómo se está constituyendo y por lo tanto, poniendo al descubierto nuevas problemáticas de una manera crítica. Para llegar a cumplir con los objetivos perseguidos, se hace un recuento de cómo la obra de arte fue evolucionando, desde cuando el centro de la experiencia estética radicaba en el objeto hasta llegar a su desmaterialización y su consecuente estética centrada en el gesto, en el procedimiento, en la transacción. Igualmente se revisan las condiciones requeridas para que un nuevo desarrollo tecnológico permita el surgimiento de una nueva forma artística, así como el impacto que tiene la tecnología en el arte. Al mismo tiempo, se da cuenta de cómo los cambios sociales producto de los desarrollos tecnológicos han modificado el comportamiento del sujeto y, en particular, su modo de relacionarse con el arte. Description An account of the resource The objective of this thesis is to study the work of the Mexican artist Rafael Lozano- Hemmer using the focus of the effect that the use of technological developments has on art. The work of this artist is characterized by the use of the most recent technical developments available in the fields of electronics, information technologies, mechanical devices and light projectors controlled by computers, including development using his multidisciplinary work team. The hypothesis of this work consists of proving, through the work of Lozano- Hemmer, that technological developments that produce a profound social change, modifying the means of perception and identity of a society, contribute to the development of new artistic forms. Moreover, it is these new forms that can best express the impact of technological developments on society, living birth to new social and artistic problems. This is due to the fact that a new artistic form establishes a new symbolic order of the world, of the new era that it is emerging, revealing how it is being formed, and therefore exposing new problems in a critical way. In order to reach the objectives established, a summary is made of how the work of arte evolved, from when the center of the esthetic experience was found in the object to its dematerialization and the consequent esthetics centered in the gesture, procedure and transaction. Likewise, the conditions are reviewed which are required for a new technological development to permit the appearance of a new artistic form, as well as the impact technology has on art. At the same time, we set forth the way in which social changes which are product of technological development have modified the conduct of the individual and, in particular, his/her way of relating to art.
